People of PointClickCare: Gabe Paine
Our Life at PointClickCare, People of PointClickCare
Introducing our Vice President of Brand Communications, Gabe Paine! Gabe’s a world traveller who loves tennis, discovering new foods, reading, and yoga. In fact, if it were up to him, his perfect day would be doing all the above. Let’s get to know him with a bit of rapid-fire.
Rapid Fire
- Describe yourself in 3 words: Curious, adaptable, adventurous.
- What is your go-to snack? Biltong (kind of like beef jerky for those not familiar). Or yogurt with frozen blueberries and granola.
- Do you speak more than one language? Learning Spanish but not doing great so far.
- What’s one thing on your bucket list? Go to all four tennis majors. So far, I’ve gone to two, so I am halfway there!
- What is your favorite type of music? It depends on my mood, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of EDM like Rufus Du Sol and Jamie XX.
- Who is the one person, alive or deceased, that you would want to sit down with for coffee and why? Anthony Bourdain. He was instrumental in shaping my views on travel and food.
Brand Leader
As the VP of Brand and Communications, Gabe leads his team in crafting PointClickCare’s external brand activities including media relationships, social profiles, digital footprint, and event presence. Gabe says the best way to describe a company’s brand is if you were to imagine the organization as a person and consider, “How would they talk, dress, act, and what do they want others to learn from them? That’s what the brand team thinks about.”
Fostering Connections Across the Globe
Gabe has loved travelling for as long as he can remember, which he attributes to his parents. “My mum is American, and my dad is South African. They met in Spain, got married in New Zealand, moved to Australia, and also lived in Hong Kong and the Philippines. In this way, I think I have always had travel in my blood.”
Although Gabe has only been with PointClickCare for 10 months, he says he’s felt comfortable and connected to the company culture from day one. As a remote employee, Gabe has seen the value of an organization truly embracing hybrid work. He says, “I always say you should work from wherever you are happiest and most productive.” He also mentioned that with the hybrid option at PointClickCare, he can coordinate meaningful in-person meetings and events with his team and across the organization with ease. “I love how PointClickCare puts value on getting teams together — nothing replaces the in-person connection from time to time.”
It’s All About the Culture
How does Gabe describe PointClickCare? “It sounds cliché, but work hard, play hard, have fun, and don’t take yourself too seriously.”
PointClickCare is known for its people first philosophy and award-winning culture. Gabe can confirm that it’s worth the hype. He says that when it comes to the culture at PointClickCare, you can see the results of it every day and in every interaction with colleagues. “What you see from the outside matches up to your experience once inside. The leadership at PointClickCare is transparent and teams are truly committed to creating a positive change in healthcare.” He says this is one of the many reasons he is grateful to be here and to work with such committed and down to earth people.
Leadership
For Gabe, success is defined by pushing yourself to be slightly uncomfortable and remembering to practice gratitude for what you have. This also relates to his thoughts on being an effective leader, which he characterizes as equal parts supporting and challenging people to strive for greatness. In his experience, the role of a leader is to understand people’s own motivations and goals and helping them achieve success. Gabe advocates for building a strong foundation with your team as people first, including getting to know them outside of work.
As a leader, Gabe also emphasizes that hard work is the foundation of success and having diversity of thought, opinions, and experiences is critical, not just to a business but to a healthy society. “Understanding that your lived experience is unique to you, and very different from others, is incredibly important. Always trying to see things from someone else’s perspective is a great skill for a marketer, but also for a good human.”
Thanks for sharing with us, Gabe!
