People of PointClickCare: Carolyn Hardy
Introducing Carolyn Hardy, VP, Professional Services for the Acute & Payer business unit! Carolyn has been part of the PointClickCare team for nine years now and says she loves it just as much as the day she joined. Let’s get to know her with some rapid-fire questions.
Rapid Fire 🔥
- Describe yourself in 3 words: Strong, Brave, Powerful. For context, “I am strong. I am brave. I am powerful.” is a mantra that I, and my kids, repeat often. I don’t always feel strong, brave, and powerful, but reminding myself of these words gives me the confidence I need to get through hard situations.
- Have you ever lived abroad? Yes! I spent a summer in Salamanca, Spain in 8th grade studying Spanish. I lived in Dunedin, New Zealand for a year in college where I studied at the University of Otago. And I lived for two years in Thailand, in a small village in Nakorn Ratchasima, where I was a United States Peace Corps volunteer.
- What one thing on your bucket list? I don’t actually have a bucket list, but I do want to write a book to combine my love of travel and adventure with business. I’ll let you know if I hit the New York Times Best Sellers list!
- What was your first job? In high school, I taught swim lessons for SwimAmerica, but I quickly realized that I could make more money teaching swim lessons myself in my family’s pool, so the next summer I decided to open my own business.
Adventure Awaits
From an early age, Carolyn was bitten by the travel bug and hasn’t stopped since. She loves to explore new places and go on fun adventures with her family. “Recently, we went to Costa Rica where we surfed, cliff dove, and chased waterfalls. Over Christmas, we went to Snowbird and my Florida kids saw snow for the first time and learned to ski.” She also says that living in Florida, she takes advantage of the beach as much as possible and loves to paddle board.
From the Peace Corps to Technology Career
When Carolyn started her career she had just finished two years in the Peace Corps as a Teacher Trainer, and she then went to work for her family business in Florida before landing a position at a software company based in San Francisco. “Funny enough, I got my first job in tech off of Craigslist jobs board! I was a Training Specialist for a government SAAS company, and I got to travel across the US consulting with government agencies, helping them implement legislative management solutions and voting systems.” Carolyn worked her way up and ended up in charge of the organization’s training department and helped them to transition from an onsite services model to hybrid to eventually fully remote delivery.
Finding her place at PointClickCare
Carolyn says she learned about PointClickCare through a mentor of hers, ended up joining in 2014, and hasn’t looked back since! Part of the reason she was quick to join is because of the mission, vision, and people who make PointClickCare amazing every day. “Solving health care challenges with smart, hardworking, and fun people gets me excited for work each day! The people at PointClickCare are the best part.”
Carolyn loves helping teams align on strategy, drive operational efficiencies through system and process improvements, and deliver value-centered customer outcomes, but she says the most rewarding part of her job is supporting growth and development of team members through mentorship, coaching, or opening the door to new opportunity. “Being part of people’s successful transition from individual contributor to manager, or helping people land a new role in a new department is very rewarding.”
MBA on the Way
For Carolyn, travelling isn’t the only adventure she is currently embarking on. She is also in the home stretch of getting her MBA with a focus on healthcare management. Since joining PointClickCare, she has gained years of practical experience and plans to continue to progress in her career in the industry. “I am thrilled to be able to dedicate time to continuing my education, and with the support of PointClickCare, I have been given the opportunity to expand my professional journey with education and career opportunities. I am excited to graduate this fall and apply what I have learned in my work at PointClickCare.”
On Leadership
Carolyn is a born leader and she says she likes to practice positive leadership. “Helping team members achieve their highest potential through creating an empowering and authentic work environment is incredibly rewarding,”
She also mentions that one of the best things a leader can do is create open lines of communication. “I’m big on clear communication and expectations, being accountable and action oriented, leading with empathy, motivating others, and modeling a healthy work ethic. I’m not afraid to roll my sleeves up and do the hard work alongside the team. I also try to bring a lot of positive energy to everything I do and everyone I work with.”
Thanks for sharing with us, Carolyn!
