Deeper into Devon
Devon earned his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo. While there, he had an amazing opportunity to study in the United Kingdom at the University of Birmingham. That’s where he took a sports psychology class and fell in love with the subject, deciding to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Ottawa.
Outside of work, Devon is passionate about ultimate frisbee! He played competitively throughout university, including the Canadian University Ultimate Championships, where he won a silver medal. Most recently, he made it onto the Montreal Royal, a semi-professional team. “I play in the adult club division and regularly compete at nationals, with my highest placing being 5th in the country,” Devon shared.
How Devon Came to PointClickCare
In February 2024, after earning his master’s in sports psychology, Devon decided to transition into software sales at PointClickCare. He summed up his journey like this: “My curiosity, ability to build relationships, and resilience really came across in the interview process. My mom is a labor and delivery nurse, so I grew up hearing stories from her work.”
Today, as an SDR for senior care, he collaborates with the Install-Base Account Executives (IBAEs) to drive engagement with customer accounts, scheduling Customer Success Review Meetings, and helping them learn about the new tools PointClickCare offers to improve their operations.
While he works remotely, Devon says it’s been an amazing experience. He loves his SDR team and its very positive culture. He also loves helping our customers and prospects solve challenges within their everyday workflows, making their jobs more efficient. “Our platform helps these incredible nurses, administrators, and others do their jobs more easily, and I love being a part of that process.”
Sports Psychology Meets Software Sales
Shortly after joining PointClickCare, Devon applied his master’s in sports psychology to create a workshop for his SDR team to share insights on well-being, motivation, and a method to set more sustainable goals. He says his workshop went so well that he shared it with his manager and director, and he was added to the sales DEI committee for well-being.
Devon is now spearheading an initiative to deliver mental performance workshops to each regional sales pod, equipping individuals with the tools to handle the pressures of working in sales. If it goes well with the sales groups, he can see the application of this kind of coaching for the entire company, as each area of the business has its own pressures to overcome to be successful in their role.
Building an Inclusive Workspace
When asked about PointClickCare, Devon describes it as a people-first culture that allows you to lead a healthy and active life and encourages you to take time for yourself. He believes it’s important to have supportive and inclusive workspaces because they increase everyone’s awareness of different cultures, perspectives, and lived experiences. “When someone looks like you or shares similar identities, it empowers you to see yourself in leadership positions, which can inspire many others from a particular community,” he said.
That’s part of what drives him to be a member of the Black Heritage & History committee. One thing he says he’d like people to know about the DEI program at PointClickCare is that it’s not just made up of individuals who identify with the group. It also includes allies and people who want to learn about other people’s perspectives.
As you can see, Devon’s commitment and enthusiasm for helping people make him the “ultimate” team player, whether it’s at PointClickCare, competing in a tournament or anything in between. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, Devon!
