Our Life at PointClickCare, People of PointClickCare
Introducing David Rodriguez, a dedicated employee who plays a crucial role in our Acute and Payer Division. David’s passion for healthcare technology and PointClickCare’s mission to make a difference in the lives of patients and communities make him an invaluable member of our team. Let’s dive into David’s world with some rapid-fire questions and hear about his journey to PointClickCare!
Rapid Fire
- Describe yourself in 3 words: Kind, collaborative, and patient.
- What movie do you enjoy quoting the most?: Wedding Crashers (“Rule number 76: No excuses, play like a champion.”)
- What’s one thing on your bucket list?: To hike through Patagonia.
- If you could have any superpower, what would it be?: As a father of 3 kids under 6, I would love to have the superpower of being able to successfully negotiate with toddlers.
- If you could only eat one cuisine for the rest of your life, which one would it be?: I am a sugar addict through and through. If I had to choose one cuisine for the rest of my life, I would pick ice cream and have zero regrets. I’m already plotting my next visit to our new Toronto office to take advantage of the gelato bar!
Journey to PointClickCare
David’s journey in healthcare began over 15 years ago. “I always thought I would end up in healthcare or medicine, but any medical aspirations quickly died freshman year in college after being humbled in chemistry.” He began interning with Audacious Inquiry, and eventually started his career in healthcare IT on the consulting side, primarily implementing large-scale EMR software for national health systems. David’s transition from services to SaaS and his focus on building state partnerships led him back to Audacious Inquiry, where he then joined PointClickCare in our March 2022 acquisition.
Passion for Healthcare and Making a Difference
Today, David leads a team of state directors who are responsible for setting growth strategies and serving our customer base in their respective territories. His team manages key partnerships at a state level, working closely with hospital associations, health information exchanges, state government agencies, and more. They ensure that our services align with the unique landscapes of the states we serve, considering factors such as policy levers, payer and provider environment, political dynamics, and customer base. “We are making a real difference in the communities we serve, and that is truly inspiring and continues to energize our team.”
A Bright Future for Acute and Payer Markets
When asked about the challenges facing the acute and payer markets, David points to the silos in healthcare and emphasizes the need to accelerate regulatory and interoperability shifts. “We want to move faster, and PointClickCare is intentionally unlocking the intersection of acute and post-acute care to break down these barriers.”
With the increasing focus on value-based care, David believes that technology plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare organizations. He envisions the company fostering deeper care coordination through events like the Care Collaboration Conferences where senior care customers come together with hospitals and health plans in their communities. These conferences provide an opportunity to share impact stories and drive growth. “There is no shortage of incredible stories that come up in natural conversation during these conferences, but I particularly enjoyed hearing firsthand some of these impact stories from customers at our annual PointClickCare SUMMIT.”
On Leadership
David finds leading a team to be the most rewarding aspect of his job. “I want my team to feel empowered with opportunity, to be challenged and motivated every day, and to feel supported.” He believes effective leadership starts with clear communication, setting expectations, and building relationships. By creating opportunities for growth and fostering a winning culture, leaders can empower their team members to reach their highest potential.
Balancing Work and Personal Life
Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his family, embracing the chaos of parenthood, being outdoors, and playing sports. David’s background playing basketball at Vanderbilt drives him to build an environment where everyone can excel. “With the right balance of foundational principles and culture, we all make each other better and rise to the competition. And who doesn’t like a little friendly competition?”
Thank you, David, for sharing your inspiring journey and insights with us!
