People of PointClickCare: Melissa Jackson, One of Our Longest Tenured Employees

PointClickCare is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and one of our employees is not far behind us! Melissa Jackson, R.N., our Director of Customer Engagement Marketing, will reach 20 years with the company in August (not counting the year she worked with founder Mike Wessinger at Wescom, PointClickCare’s predecessor company). As you can imagine, Melissa has been a valuable asset in her two decades with us and witnessed many changes in both our company and the industry we serve.

What Hasn’t She Done?

After a stint working as a nurse in long-term care in the late 1990’s, Melissa arrived at a very small PointClickCare in the summer of 2000, and says she did whatever had to be done.

“I initially wore multiple hats, including trainer, project manager, customer support, demos for sales, and product consultant. What are now multiple departments used to be just me on the clinical side and our financial person Sheila. When teams were hired to implement customers, that was a big change.”

Melissa finds it rewarding to build relationships with PointClickCare customers, learning how the company’s technology can help make their days easier and their work more efficient. One of her first client connections still stands out.

“My earliest accomplishment was being part of the team that won Genesis as a customer in 2004. I was involved in the sales process, demoing our clinical product and building relationships with the Genesis Clinical team, as well as helping to implement many of their facilities. I would travel down to the Genesis locations every Sunday to train their staff and return each Friday. It was exhausting but so rewarding.”

Melissa’s contributions to PointClickCare and our customers are numerous; here are a few others worth noting:

  • She developed and executed the MDS-in-a-Day program for professional services to onboard new customers with the new MDS 3.0. It ended up being the basis for TaaS (training as a service), now our current-day SmartZone.
  • She was proud just to be nominated for our “Leader of the Year” award in 2016 – and then won!
  • She and her new team recently initiated our advocacy program and re-launched our Pulse online community.

A Very Special Appeal

So, what drew Melissa to PointClickCare – and has kept her here all these years? She articulates it very simply:

“It’s our noble mission and amazing customers. It starts with the genuine care that Mike and Dave have for the people of the LTPAC industry. As Dave took on the COO role, and then President, we’ve returned to our roots of transparency. Yet we also understand that what got us here won’t get us there.”

As for new employees, Melissa has a few words of wisdom for them, too.

“Invest in learning from a variety of mentors, both those who are long-standing PointClickCare employees and those who’ve joined the company more recently, bringing fresh insights.”

Kudos to Melissa on her upcoming milestone! We’re certain that our employees both new and old will continue to tap her knowledge of PointClickCare and the LTPAC industry, as will our customers.
