Journey to PointClickCare
Aaron has been with PointClickCare since 2019 and in the healthcare industry since 1999. Today, as the VP of Operations for Life Sciences, he is responsible for the delivery side of our life science business, which includes product, publications, customer success, and services.
Before joining PointClickCare, Aaron worked on a different side of healthcare and says that part of what drew him to the mission of the organization is seeing the impact we can have on patients and caregivers with the wealth of data available from PointClickCare. “I’ve worked in healthcare before, but what caught my attention with PointClickCare was being able to see how drugs interact and work in a real-world scenario.”
Previously, Aaron said that he saw drug development being done in silos, and he thought, in a system as complex as the human body, it would be beneficial to see how weighing different factors can contribute to products and their overall success. “I thought that if we could make drug creation less expensive and increase the quality, we could really make a difference. With PointClickCare, we can do it by utilizing over 20 years of data to ensure we are making products that will make a positive impact on everyone.”
How Aaron Defines Success
While to some, success might be centered around material possessions or title, Aaron holds his values close and says that in his experience, “Success in life is all about balancing time investments in all the important areas of life.” He emphasizes that he values work, family, volunteering, adventure, health, research, and travel but has found that he needs to regularly review and evaluate how they contribute to his life to ensure he always has a balance that fits his current situation and stage of life.
Residing on Vancouver Island, Aaron is one of our remote employees and says that he truly values the flexibility this provides him in his personal and professional life. “Again, coming back to that balance of life pillars, working remotely frees up that time I would have spent commuting to do more meaningful and fulfilling things.” For Aaron, this flexibility allows him to spend more time doing things that feed his soul and sense of purpose, like spending time with his kids or volunteering to coach the local high school’s ultimate frisbee team. “I believe that being available for these things outside of work makes me more productive when I am at work because the benefits of a well-balanced life impact my psyche and make me a more well-rounded person.”
Culture and values that drive success
Aaron says the culture at PointClickCare is one of the best he’s seen because it is the perfect mix of professionalism and camaraderie. “Our culture, and all the people we work with, not only promote a supportive and inclusive culture, but they practice it every day. It really makes a difference to work with people who are not only professionals, but who have an inherent sense of trust in their colleagues. We give each other the benefit of the doubt and work together to achieve our mission of helping every provider deliver exceptional care, and I think that’s what makes PointClickCare thrive in this industry.”
