MISSISSAUGA, ON – October 29, 2014 – PointClickCare, the leading cloud-based software platform for the senior care market, announced its completion of transition plans with all of its integrated pharmacy partners for CMS’s new enforcement of the use of National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) SCRIPT 10.6. Effective November 1, 2014, CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) will lift the exemption rule for long-term care providers and pharmacies that allowed the continued use of HL7 integrations and computer-generated faxes to communicate orders to pharmacies.
The CMS mandate has stipulated that long-term post-acute care (LTPAC) providers that are entering and faxing orders using a computer generated fax will be in non-compliance as of the November 1st deadline. In addition, PointClickCare customers entering orders and using the “Print to fax machine” functionality, will no longer be able to transmit orders to the pharmacy in this manner. Orders will need to be printed to paper, signed and then faxed to the pharmacy.

As part of this changeover, senior living homes that have been entering orders, printing them for signing and faxing orders, or homes that have been faxing handwritten copies, will not be required to change their workflow.
