SHA-2 Encryption Certificate Update

Important information for PointClickCare customers

PointClickCare takes its responsibilities to safeguard the privacy of customers’ data very seriously. On an ongoing basis we review the tools and procedures in place to eliminate the risk of unauthorized access to PointClickCare.

Until recently, “SHA-1 Certificates” were the generally accepted standard for most consumer- and business-grade secure web applications, including PointClickCare. As a result of a downgrade to the SHA-1 Certificate security rating by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), web applications providers, including PointClickCare, are required to migrate to the more secure “SHA-2 certificate” standard.

PointClickCare will be introducing SHA-2 Certificates starting in September 2015. All compatible systems will be using SHA-2 Certificates once introduced. It is anticipated that this transition will be seamless for the vast majority of PointClickCare customers.

Recognizing that some PointClickCare customers may be using technology that will not support SHA-2 Certificates, the SHA-1 Certificates will be phased out in early 2016. By that time, all PointClickCare customers must ensure their systems are compatible with the new SHA-2 Certificates, or risk being unable to access PointClickCare from incompatible workstations, computers, mobile devices, etc.
